Award winning playwright Richard Bean will join Guardian theatre critic Lyn Gardner, Literary Associate for Sonia Friedman Productions Jack Bradley and Society of London Theatre (SOLT) chief executive Julian Bird on Monday 26th March 2012 to discuss the future of the West End as part of The Heart of the West End’s exciting conference programme.

Having worked as a psychologist and stand-up comedian, Bean began writing for the theatre in 1995. Bean’s latest play One Man, Two Guvnors won both the Evening Standard Award for Best Play and the Critics’ Circle Award for Best Play in 2011. Earlier this year One Man, Two Guvnors was also awarded the WhatsOnStage.com Award for Best New Comedy. After its sell-out success at the National Theatre, UK regional tour and West End run at the Adelphi Theatre, the production, starring James Corden, will receive its Broadway premiere in April. One Man, Two Guvnors is also currently playing at the Theatre Royal Haymarket with a new cast that includes Owain Arthur, Jodie Prenger and Hannah Spearritt.

The panel discussion on the future of the West End will be chaired by Variety critic and academic Karen Fricker and forms part of wider discussions on London’s Theatreland to be held on Sunday 25th and Monday 26th March 2012. The Heart of the West End is being organised by Dr. Gilli Bush-Bailey of Royal Holloway, University of London in association with the V&A and Theatre Royal Haymarket and will bring together some of the UK’s leading academics, theatre owners, makers, managers, performers and critics to discuss, debate and deliberate the West End’s, past, present and future.

Tickets are now on sale for this extraordinary event and can be purchased from the Theatre Royal Haymarket direct. Visit the box office in person, call 0845 481 1870 or log on to: http://www.trh.co.uk/whatson/the-heart-of-the-west-end/
