MA Directing Students meet National Theatre Associate Director

Posted on 07/11/2011

On Thursday, October 13th Katie Mitchell O.B.E. (associate director at the Royal National Theatre) invited course leader, Ali Hodge, and the MA Directing students to meet her at the National Theatre, London.

In a fascinating, intensive two hour session for the students Katie outlined her meticulous process of research, textual analysis and detailed work with actors to achieve the distinctive world of each play. She discussed many aspects of her work including the development of her experience as a young director on the job, the influence of practitioners from Eastern Europe and her more recent devised productions incorporating multi-media. The students peppered the session with questions about her process, her decision to work in the UK and Europe and her artistic influences.

Katie Mitchell is a visiting professor in the Department of Drama and Theatre at Royal Holloway.
