Radio plays 2010

Posted on 29/04/2010

Radio Playmaking (DT3030) is concerned with the ‘making’ of radio drama in both senses of the word.  First of all, it explores what distinguishes radio drama from drama merely broadcast on radio:  that is, what kind of play can be fully realised only through the medium of sound?  Second, it requires the students themselves to make such a play, writing or adapting it and then realising it in a recording.  The results of this year’s class can be heard at http://personal.rhul.ac.uk/uhwe/015/Radio%20Playmaking%202010/, where you will find four plays ranging in length from 17 to 25 minutes, adapted from the following stories:

  • ‘Rattlesnakes’, by Irvine Welsh
  • ‘The Fall of the House of Usher’, by Edgar Allan Poe
  • ‘The Magic Finger’, by Roald Dahl
  • ‘The Yellow Wallpaper’, by Charlotte Perkins Gilman

(Please note:  the latter two plays have separate tracks, which must be accessed individually.)
