- On the suffrage centenary on 6th February, the 'Staging Suffrage' team revived excerpts from these plays in sites that still resonate with the cause 100 years on, across Royal Holloway's campus, and the local areas of Egham and Englefield Green, re-connecting place, memory, and politics for 21st century audiences.

- Poppy Corbett, who is in her final year of study for a PhD in the Department of Drama, Theatre & Dance, had an article published in the journal Performance Research earlier this year. The title of the journal issue is 'On Proximity' and it is co-edited by Ben Cranfield and Louise Owen.

- Eugénie Pastor - a PhD student in the department - has won critical acclaim for a number of her recent performances. Eugénie is Associate Artist at award-winning company Little Bulb Theatre, with whom she has been making and performing work for the past eight years, including Operation Greenfield and Squally Showers. The company recently took its show Orpheus, commissioned by Battersea Arts Centre, to the Brisbane Festival (in September 2017), where it was very warmly received.

- The Department is pleased to offer a number of awards and studentships to applicants who are accepted for the MPhil/PhD degree to commence in 2018. Those intending to study for a PhD in the Department are able to apply for Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) studentships and for College studentships through a single process.

- The research of departmental staff in contemporary British theatre was well-represented at a recent international conference on Nation, Nationhood and Theatre organised by the German Society for Contemporary Drama and Theatre in English (CDE), held at the University of Reading (29 June-2 July).

- Alumna Amy Batty (Drama & Theatre Studies 2015) appears in The Stage talking about her experience on the Bristol Old Vic stage management MA, and working with Julian Glover (of Star Wars/James Bond/Indiana Jones/Harry Potter/Game of Thrones fame) on a new BOV production of Julius Caesar.

- The Oxford Union is "the world's most prestigious debating society, with an unparalleled reputation for bringing international guests and speakers to Oxford". Very few debates, however, have been as eclectic as yesterday's event, which featured our very own Professor of Drama and Theatre Studies Liz Schafer facing an opposition that included indie-grime rapper and MC Big Narstie.
