The Oxford Union is "the world's most prestigious debating society, with an unparalleled reputation for bringing international guests and speakers to Oxford". Very few debates, however, have been as eclectic as yesterday's event, which featured our very own Professor of Drama and Theatre Studies Liz Schafer facing an opposition that included indie-grime rapper and MC Big Narstie.

James Pidgeon (BA English and Drama 2009) has gone from strength to strength in the last eight years, from SU President here at Royal Holloway to the Globe, Battersea Arts Centre, and the National. Recently, he's served as Programme Manager, Producer and Deputy Director at Shoreditch Town Hall, who have just appointed him as Director.

Prof Matthew Cohen receives Yale fellowship

Prof Matthew Cohen receives Yale fellowship
Description
Matthew Isaac Cohen, Professor of International Theatre, has been seconded by Yale on account of being the world's leading expert on Indonesian puppetry. Professor Cohen studied wayang kulit in the puppetry department of the conservatoire Institut Seni Indonesia Surakarta in Indonesia, received a PhD in anthropology from Yale University, was a postdoctoral research fellow at the International Institute for Asian Studies in The Netherlands and taught at the University of Glasgow before joining Royal Holloway in 2005. He is the Director of Royal Holloway's Centre for Asian Theatre and Dance.
