Description
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Katharine Worth, founder of the Department of Drama and Theatre at Royal Holloway.Katharine, an alumna of Bedford College, set up a joint degree in English and Drama at Royal Holloway in 1978, and launched the single honours degree and, with it, the Department of Drama and Theatre a couple of years later. Katharine was a remarkable and historic figure in the discipline of Drama and Theatre; she pioneered the integrated practical and theoretical study of theatre that is still reflected in the curriculum today.

Professor of Theatre, Helen Gilbert has just returned from South Africa where she was welcomed by Magnet Theatre for a week's participatory research on performance, land and belonging as part of her transnational ERC-funded project on 'Indigeneity in the Contemporary World'. The research included a visit to rock art created by the indigenous communities who inhabited the Western Cape region in precolonial times.

In June 2014, an international group of graduating students from the MA 'Playwriting' and new MA 'Contemporary Performance Practices' courses at Royal Holloway University of London presented a short festival of performances and play-readings.It was the first such festival of practice-based MA work in the Department of Drama and Theatre at Royal Holloway. After two terms of tutor-led workshops and focused research, all of the performances were initiated and devised by the students.This short film reflects on some of the work produced.
