Voices of asylum seekers in new play by Royal Holloway research student

Voices of asylum seekers in new play by Royal Holloway research student
Description
A new play by Royal Holloway research student, Clare Summerskill, uses a powerful technique to bring unheard voices to the stage. Rights of Passage explores the struggles and triumphs of lesbians and gay men who have fled to the UK from persecution. Clare, a well-known performer, writer and gay activist, is researching the role of the contributor to works of verbatim theatre, a means of playwriting where the text is created from interviews. She used this technique to create Rights of Passage, interviewing LGBT asylum seekers to bring their real-life stories to the stage.
