'Assembling Identities': Postgraduate/Early-Career Researcher Conference

Posted on 28/01/2013

23rd-24th May 2013, University of Glasgow

Keynote Speakers: Professor Regenia Gagnier (University of Exeter); Professor Pierre Joris (SUNY at Albany); Ruth Washbrook (Scottish Screen Archive/NLS)

The University of Glasgow’s Graduate School of the College of Arts is delighted to announce 'Assembling Identities', an international and cross-disciplinary conference focusing on how we understand identity and the process of identity formation.

In light of recent and potential reconsiderations of national, disabled and religious identities, the conference will investigate some of the various ways in which identities, both established and marginal, can be – and have been – assembled and disassembled throughout the world.

The conference committee welcomes and encourages proposals for papers and other research-led contributions from postgraduate and early careers researchers that challenge or bridge the gap between the visual and performing arts, literature, history and other traditional and disciplinary boundaries.

Possible interpretations and conceptions of identity may include, but are not restricted, to:

- Political - Technological/Digital - National - Territorial

- (Dis)Abled - Genre - Gender/Sexuality - Environmental

- Temporal - Cinematic - Race - Objective/Subjective

- Occupational - Performance - Class - (Mis)Remembered

- Critical identities - Created

- Religious/Moral - Ideological

We invite abstracts of no more than 200 words and a short bio (100 words) to be sent to the conference committee at arts-assemblingidentities2013@glasgow.ac.uk by Friday 1st March 2013. Please specify the format of your proposed contribution:

  • Research paper
  • Practice as research presentation, including performance
  • Poster presentation
  • Audio-visual installation, including screenings
  • Pecha Kucha presentation (6 minutes, 40 seconds: http://www.pechakucha.org/)

We intend to publish a selection of papers from the conference proceedings.

Any queries should be addressed to arts-assemblingidentities2013@glasgow.ac.uk.

There is no registration fee for this conference
