New Postgraduate Programme starting September 2013
MA Consumption, Culture and Marketing
The Centre for Criminology and Sociology gets ready for the newly launched MA in Consumption, Culture and Marketing. This is an interdisciplinary masters programme that draws together content and teaching from the subject areas of marketing, sociology and criminology. The programme explores claims that our contemporary world can be best understood as a consumer society and a brand culture and explores how marketing and consumerism increasingly define our experiences, social relationships and civic infrastructure. As such we seek to analyse marketing behaviour with a view to better understand how it functions as a determinative mode of production whose influence reaches well beyond spheres of consumer behaviour and marketing management and into the realms of politics, culture and the environment. This programme will be of interest for people who want to reflect more broadly and more intellectually about a career in marketing or simply for people who want to develop more sophisticated ways of understanding the lives we live today as consumers.
