Careers support

The Department of Computer Science, in partnership with the College Careers Service – part of the Careers Group, University of London, the largest university careers service in Europe – provides you the opportunity to develop transferable skills and market yourself effectively for graduate jobs:

  • The second-year group project will prepare you for team work and, as part of your third year individual project, we train you to give presentations.

  • You will also be able to enrol on a wide variety of skills workshops throughout the academic year.

  • The Department’s teaching staff will give you advice on CV writing, create your identity on professional networks such as LinkedIn, completing application forms and preparing for an interview.

Advice on careers is provided by the Departmental Careers Tutor and the College Careers Service, who also organise a number of events through which you can get directly involved with employers:

  • You will be able to benefit from one-to-one advice from a Careers Consultant with appointments available in each term.

  • Many IT companies visit throughout the year to recruit or offer opportunities for placements.

  • Through the part-time jobs fair, which runs in the first weeks of term, you will have access to local employers.

  • Careers in Finance’ week explores IT career opportunities in Investment Banking, Public Sector Finance, Accountancy, Professional Services, Risk and Insurance.

  • The ‘Numbers, Words and Environment’ careers week offers you the opportunity to explore further the diverse range of occupations related to Computer Science.

The Department also maintains a strong link with its alumni, who are often able to provide you advice, contacts and networking opportunities through our Facebook group.
