Big Data computing cluster is up and running

Posted on 07/03/2014

The master node of the Big Data computing cluster currently under construction in the Computer Science Department is now up and running!

The new machine is a CALLEO Application Server 2260 with overall twelve core of CPU power, 32GB of memory, and 8TB of the disk storage. It is currently configured to run the Hadoop MapReduce stack, and is available for use by our Big Data MSc/MSci programme students.

In the near future, this machine will become the main controller of our new seven-node Big Data cluster. It will also serve as a repository to store massive data sets provided by our industrial and academic partners to facilitate research and student training.
