Description
Careers in Media

Do you want to make a career in film, TV or radio? Come and meet Royal Holloway alumni who have successful careers in these competitive industries. Hear about their career journey, find out what their job is like day to day and get some advice on how to launch your own career in media.

Amalia Rosen-Rawlings - After graduating from Royal Holloway in 2009, Amalia kicked off her producing career making music videos for underground grime artists such as Wiley, Skepta, P money and Ed Sheeren (yes Ed Sheeran was seen as underground at one point!). Her skills were quickly recognised by her peers and she was shortly head hunted by a small production company where she headed up the Music Video department. Not only did she oversee all levels of production for artists ranging from Nicki Minaj to Girls Aloud, she also produced a vast amount of the jobs that came through the door, some of which included working with Little Mix, Missy Elliot and Olly Murs, to name a few. Since going freelance in 2013, she’s moved into producing commercial and branded content, working with major brands such as Bailey’s and Lexus, although her heart still remains in the music video production world, most recently producing videos for Rudimental, Chase & Status and Sam Smith.

Sam Wynn  - Sam graduated from Royal Holloway in 2013 with a degree in French & Drama. Alongside her studies, Sam was heavily involved with Insanity Radio 103.2 FM and Rhubarb TV. After graduating, Sam started to work as a Runner on productions such as Radio 1’s Teen Awards and Leeds Festival. She then became part of BBC Music’s Runner Talent Pool and went on to become the Production Runner for Later…with Jools Holland and Glastonbury Festival. She is now taking the next step up as a Researcher  in Television. Sam also volunteers as a Producer and Presenter at Soho Radio in London.

Hannah Turner  - Commercial Scheduling Executive at This is Global

Sophie Anderson - I started at Royal Holloway in 2007 studying drama and creative writing, however quickly formed an interest in Insanity from the very start thanks to a great board at the time. From there most of my time was spent doing radio related stuff! Having taken that interest with me I managed to secure an internship at Global, went on to do 4 years at Mindshare the media agency Account Managing and I'm now back as Media Manager at Global on the commercial team.

James Abadi -  James graduated from Royal Holloway in 1998 and is a successful Exec producer and all-round creator. He is currently setting up a new indie, with backing from a major to create genre-busting TV shows. Over the years he has series produced and directed award winning formats such as Release The Hounds, Man vs Fly and Airmageddon. James has also produced, directed and / or edited hundreds of hours of TV from front line police docs to multi-cam reality formats like Big Brother and I'm a Celeb and loads of other stuff. He has also made many music vids, brand sponsored things, shorts and his first movie - which he wrote, produced and directed.
