Industrial placements for PhD students (PIPS)

Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) students are expected to complete a Professional Internship (PIPS) during their time as a PhD student. This should be subject to the agreement of your supervisor. Placements for DTP students should not be related to their doctoral research.

Students should keep their supervisors informed throughout the process of arranging and undertaking an internship. Supervisors are encouraged to maintain contact with their students whilst on placement and where possible visit the student on placement at least once.

BBSRC DTP students should refer to the outlining documents.

Possible available Placements for BBSRC DTP students

All other PhD students are also encouraged to seek a placement, ideally in the second or third year of your PhD. In the case of Non DTP BBSRC students, the placement may be related to their doctoral research.

What to do before you embark on your placement

Once this has been organised but before you head off, please notify the Faculty Administator by completing the application form which can be found here. Please advise where you will be placed and the term of your placement.

On your return

On your return you will need to complete a report. Detail on how to do this can be found http://www.bbsrc.ac.uk/documents/pips-report-guidance-notes-pdf/
