Animals that live in extreme environments are fascinating, and provide biologists with valuable tools to study ecology and evolution. This lecture gives an overview over the types of extreme environments inhabited by livebearing fishes (for example guppies and mollies), and will then specifically focus on those that are known from caves and toxic springs, and the fascinating traits that help them survive in those environments.
