Offer work experience to students

Royal Holloway runs an award-winning "micro-placement" scheme, providing short two to four week unpaid summer work placements for 2nd year students across 12 academic departments. The scheme is growing every year, and we are always looking for alumni who are able to accommodate a placement student in their organisation.

Read more about the scheme in our micro-placement brochure (PDF-19MB).

Micro-placements 2017

Do you work in any of the following industries within a commutable distance to Egham? We have talented, pre-selected Royal Holloway students keen to secure a work-experience placement in these industries this summer. Can you help?

  • Corporate law

  • Investment & retail banking

  • Actuarial

  • Magazine / sports-related journalism

  • Sound engineering

  • Policy making (Politics and Environmental)

  • Environmental & Seismic engineering

  • Airport operations / transport

  • Hydrology

  • Geoscience (field based work)

Placements are amazing opportunities for students to gain practical work experience in their chosen area of interest and for employers to cover busy periods or spot new talent.

Students apply for the scheme through a competitive selection process. As a result, those that are accepted onto the scheme are highly motivated and career-focused. Both the employers and the students benefit enormously from the experience.

To take part or to find out more please email alumni@royalholloway.ac.uk.

Testimonials

“The whole experience participating in Royal Holloway’s placement scheme was an absolute pleasure from start to finish...Charlotte, our work experience student, was a joy to work with, and even over the short two-week period had a noticeable impact on the charity’s work.”

Employer Isobel Colchester, Chief Executive, Poet in the City

I have learnt how to communicate within a team and with external contacts which improved my confidence. In addition, I have greatly improved my research skills which I can use in future university assignments but also for future employment.”

Grace Rawlings, Criminology Student, placement at the Centre for Social Justice
