'First Ladies' event

Join us in the Regent's Park home of Bedford College for this Bedford Society event where speakers - including a Bedford scholar - will explore the long-term effect on the lives of professional women of the Representation of the People Act (1918) and the Sex Disqualification Removal Act (1919). Areas to be covered will include - amongst others - law, accountancy, diplomacy, scientific enquiry and exploration.
There will be time for questions and discussion, as well as time to meet and greet each other over tea.
Speakers include:
- Katie Broomfield - postgraduate research student in the Department of History at Royal Holloway and Bedford New College and former Bedford Society Scholar
- Professor Dame Jane Francis - Director of the British Antarctic Survey and Bedford College alumna
- Professor Ruth Livesey (Chair) - Professor in 19th Century Literature & Thought
- Dr Anne Logan - Social Scientist, University of Kent
- Dr John Prebble - Honorary Fellow, former Vice-Principal and Senior Lecturer in Biochemistry
- Dame Rosemary Spencer - former British civil servant and diplomat
- Helen Thornley - Technical Officer at ATT (Association of Taxation Technicians)
Tickets are £25pp and will include tea and a selection of cakes.
