HM Queen Elizabeth II visited the College to open the new Earth Sciences building (Queen’s Building) as part of its celebration year, in which it honoured the 100 year anniversary of its grand opening by Queen Victoria.
The Queen also inaugurated the merger of Royal Holloway and Bedford New College.
In her speech in the Chapel, the Queen recalled the opening of Royal Holloway by her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria and expressed her hopes for the new College’s future.
The Queen met Principal Dorothy Wedderburn on her visit.
The Royal Holloway Archives and Special Collections records relating to the histories of Royal Holloway College, Bedford College, Royal Holloway and Bedford New College, as well as personal papers of former staff and students.
