Spooks actor Alex Lanipekun and BBC News reporter Ayshea Buksh will be visiting Royal Holloway, University of London tomorrow for a special Media Festival.

Secondary school pupils and sixth-form students from across the county will be invited to turn their hand to acting and directing under the guidance of industry professionals at this exciting festival.

Alex Lanipekun became a house-hold name when he joined the cast of Spooks as journalist-come-spy Ben Kaplan. He has also appeared in Clash Of The Titans, starring Sam Worthington and Ralph Fiennes, and the British film Blitz, starring Jason Statham and Paddy Considine.

During the TV Production workshop, Alex will be putting the students through their paces in the College’s TV Studio in the Media Arts Department, where they will learn the art of directing and acting for TV.

BBC News reporter Ayesha Buksh will be leading a workshop on news reporting where students will research, write and film their own news reports. They will also explore sound, TV production, journalism and presenting during a workshop recreating the Radio 1 Sofa Sessions programme.

Tanya Popeau, senior widening participation and outreach officer at Royal Holloway, said: “It is fantastic to be able to invite local schools to take part in these exciting workshops. We are delighted that Alex Lanipekun and Ayesha Buksh were willing to take time out of their busy schedules to give these young students a taste of working in the media industry. We have some fantastic facilities within the Media Arts department and it is great to be able to share them with the local schools.”
