New Chair and Vice-Chair of College Council appointed

New chairman of Council, Stephen Cox

Royal Holloway, University of London welcomes its new chairman of Council, Stephen Cox and Vice-Chair, Iain Ross.

The College Council elected Mr Cox to succeed Sir Andrew Burns who will remain on Council as a lay member until 31 December 2011.

Mr Cox was Chief Executive and Executive Director of the Royal Society from 1997 to February 2011. Prior to this he was Chief Executive for the Westminster Foundation for Democracy and from 1991 until 1997 Director General of the Commonwealth Institute. He was a member of Kingston University Council from 2001 until 2008 and was Chair of their Audit Committee for several years. He is married with two grown up children and lives in Teddington.

Mr Ross is a Biochemistry graduate of the College and joined the Council in March 2007.   He is an experienced businessman with over 30 years’ experience, largely in the international life sciences sector. He currently chairs the Alumni Advisory Group.
