A new Centre for Social Sciences has been established at Royal Holloway, University of London, under the leadership of Dr Oliver Heath, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Politics and International Relations.

The Centre will provide an institutional focus within the College for the development of research and teaching throughout the social sciences. Its specific goals include:

  • Strengthening the provision of training for academic staff and doctoral students in the design of social science research;
  • Facilitating the learning of new qualitative and quantitative methods;
  • Promoting interdisciplinary research and collaboration;
  • Providing a forum for developing research grant applications.

The Centre will bring together staff and students from a number of Royal Holloway departments and will run a series of workshops, seminars and one-off events.

Speaking about the Centre’s programme, Dr Heath said: "I am delighted that the College has taken this initiative. Royal Holloway is home to much innovative research, and many of our social scientists are at the cutting edge of their field. I look forward to working with all my colleagues to promote and support their activities".
