Sixth form pupils were treated to a day on the set of popular Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks after they won a film school competition at Royal Holloway, University of London.
Students from Kingston College, Woking College, West Thames and Richmond College were invited to take part in a one-day film school at Royal Holloway, where they received an introduction to film-making, including screen writing and directing. They were then set the challenge to use their new found skills to make and edit their own short films with the help of Media Arts undergraduates.
The pupils from Woking College saw off stiff competition from other students and were hailed the winners by a panel including Hollywood actor, Idris Elba, who starred in blockbuster Thor and BBC crime drama Luther, and documentary producer Kerry Mcleod.
The five winning pupils recently visited the Hollyoaks set where they were given a behind the scenes peek of filming and a tour by the set designer Martin Mcleod.
Tanya Popeau, Outreach Officer at Royal Holloway, said: “It was an amazing experience for the students to visit the set and meet the actors. They gained real insight into what happens behind the scenes on the set of the popular show and left with real enthusiasm for their future film studies.”
