Grateful parent funds scholarship for talented student

Posted on 23/01/2012

A new scholarship is now available for a student applying to study in the Classics Department at Royal Holloway, University of London following the generous donation by a grateful parent.

The donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, has offered to provide one fully funded scholarship for a student studying a single honours BA programme in Classics, Classical Studies, Ancient History, Latin and Greek. The award is in recognition of the “wonderful experience and support” their child had received at Royal Holloway and is aimed at enabling another student to benefit from this experience.

The scholarship is open to prospective first year undergraduate students for these degree programmes aiming to enter the College in the 2012/13 academic year and will cover full Home/EU fees for one student for three years of undergraduate study.

The scholarship will be awarded to an exceptional student who will bring something exciting and unique to the department, for example organising an event, a play or a research trip overseas, with applicants invited to submit an application form, supported by a reference from their school/college, explaining what they could bring to the department.

Application forms, available online, should be submitted by the deadline of 30 March 2012.

Professor Ahuvia Kahane, Head of Department, said: “We are delighted that the parent of one of our students felt compelled to offer a fully-funded scholarship to help another student to benefit from the teaching experience that we offer. We are extremely grateful for this generosity.”
