Royal Holloway Entrepreneurs, a student-led organisation supported by the College′s Careers Service, has achieved national recognition by winning the National Consortium of University Entrepreneurs (NACUE) New Society of the Year Award 2010. Jack Lenox, President of Royal Holloway Entrepreneurs, was presented with the award at the NACUE Leaders’ Training Conference in front of an audience of the leaders of the UK’s university enterprise societies.
In the same week, Jess Ratcliffe (pictured), a 1st year Management student, won the NACUE National Varsity Pitch competition. Jess was awarded £10,000 by NCGE Director David Bozward for her new venture GaBoom, a website platform which permits users to easily swap used computer games.
John King, Entrepreneurship Careers Adviser, said, “To have won not one but two major national awards in a single week underlines the outstanding achievements of our student entrepreneurs this year. Jack and his team have worked tirelessly to promote and support enterprise and have helped to make Royal Holloway a top destination for students who want to study within an environment which will support their entrepreneurial ambitions and aspirations.”
Jack Lenox said, “Jess is one of the founding members of Royal Holloway Entrepreneurs and has served this year on our committee as Events Coordinator. She has helped to bring nearly 600 members to the organisation as well as studying for her degree and building her business, so to see her win a major national competition is very rewarding.”
The National Varsity Pitch Competition is the UK′s premier business pitching competition for university students. Shortlisted businesses delivered a two-minute pitch in front of a panel of esteemed judges, including original BBC2 ′Dragon′ Doug Richard, Guy Rigby, Director at Smith & Williamson, Richard Tyler of the ′Daily Telegraph′ and David Bozward, Director of Flying Start, as well as a VIP audience of 250 entrepreneurs, investors, innovators, public figures and members of the national media.
