Portrait of Geoffrey and Christopher Herringham by Annie Swynnerton, 1889
To celebrate the anniversary of women winning the right to vote this talk looks at the ways in which Christiana Herringham used her art and her independant wealth to further the suffrage cause. PhD student Michaela Jones joins curator Laura MacCulloch to explore the suffrage activity of this remarkable woman whose art collection is held by College. The talk will also look at Herringham's friend and fellow artist Annie Swynnerton and is one of the last chances to see the portrait she painted of Herringham's two sons before it goes on loan to Manchester Art Gallery for the exhibition Annie Swynnerton: Painting Light and Hope (23 February 2018-6 January 2019).
This event is free and there is no need to book but if you are coming by car please e-mail Laura MacCulloch to register your vehicle on the College parking system.
