Shilling Building Auditorium
Polly, Annie, Elizabeth, Catherine and Mary-Jane are famous for the same thing, though they never met. What they had in common was the name of their murderer: Jack the Ripper. In this talk about her ground-breaking and highly controversial book, The Five, Hallie Rubenhold will peel back the layers of rumour, 19th-century 'fake news', and conspiracy theories, and discuss what historical sources and historical context can tell us about the lives of this collection of Victorian working class women.
Admission free but booking is essential.
