Collection highlights

The Royal Holloway art collections include some of the 19th century’s most iconic works of art. This wonderful display is largely thanks to our founder, the entrepreneur Thomas Holloway, and the artist Christiana Herringham.

Thomas Holloway started buying paintings in 1881, amassing some of the most important works of the era. Holloway and Herringham’s collections have been enhanced over the years through gifts, acquisitions and commissions. The collections now represent over 200 years of art.

Take a look at some of the highlights below or explore our art collections online by taking themed virtual tours curated by our own team of specialists.
